Ok, Chicago was much harder for blogging because we were way busier and email access was trickier. I should be sleeping, but needed to write my Kids Konnection column for the magazine and check email because I hadn't checked in a few days (and I'm in charge of this potluck at the dance studio tomorrow.) Anyway, I need to go to sleep, but wanted to make sure you all knew we were alive and well and having the most wonderful time this week in Chicago.
I'll do a more thorough update later this weekend, but here's a teaser:
Wed: Went to the Museum of Science and Industries. Saw great IMAX movie about the Colorado River. Highlight was that each of us got to dissect a cow's eye in a hands on lab. Real dissection, real scapels, real cool! Wed night was the UCI reception, so I enjoyed visiting with Marlon's colleagues and former students and the food was terrific (and plentiful enough for us to make it dinner!)
Thursday: Had a more low key day. Had lunch here at the hotel with Dorey, my mom's 97 year old cousin who is in great shape (and lives in Chicago). Went shopping in the Magnificent Mile (where our hotel is.) Watched a huge thunder and lightning storm from our hotel room windows as we snuggled in bed watching a movie together.
Today: Marlon had one more free day, so he joined us for all activities. Went to Navy Pier and rode the Ferris Wheel and the kids rode the big swing ride. Had a great lunch there. Walked around. Went to the Adler Planetarium, which was amazing. Great shows about space and astronomy and neat hands on exhibits. Dinner near our hotel at a great trendy Chicago restaurant.
And now we return home tomorrow, having had the most wonderful family vacation of all time. We're all feeling bittersweet. You can't be gone forever and we miss Midnight and our house and homecooked meals, but it's been so great to be together and not have other obligations and do all these fun things.
More later!
